Ep. 65 – Loud & Impolite: An Interview with Patricia Maisch

Summary
This week:
BITCHFEST:
This week, February 1st – 8th, is Gun Violence Survivor Week.
Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action are marking this week by sharing survivors’ stories, in their own words, in a campaign they’re calling #MomentsThatSurvive.
On Wednesday, February 6, the US House of Representatives will hold its first hearing on gun violence in eight years. The Judiciary Committee will hear testimony on HR8, the “Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019,” which will expand background checks to ALL gun purchases – covering gun shows, online sales and other private sales.
Tell your Representative to support HR8.
Guest Pat Maisch quoted in the Washington Post, after Manchin-Toomey failed in the Senate.
More on “Badass Pat Maisch.”
Pat Maisch on Why We Wear Orange.

ACTION OF THE WEEK:
Racism is deep seeded in America and the Trump administration is infused with it from their racist wall, to their racist family separation policy (which is devastating illustrated by Grethsell’s case), to their racist voter suppression (here is LDF testimony on this). We must take a stand against racism and urge our Members of Congress to pass a spending bill with no money for the wall, to end and investigate family separation, and to pass HR 1 to expand voting access.
Calls to congress
Script for MoCs who stood firm against money for the wall:
My name is XX. I’m a constituent from zip code XX. I thank Sen/Rep for standing strong against the wall and getting the government open again. I need him/her to do more to stop racism in this country by:
- Passing funding bills with NO money for the wall
- Ending and investigating family separation at the border
- Passing HR 1 because expanding voting access is the civil rights issue of our times
Script for MoCs who voted for the wall at any time.
My name is XX. I’m a constituent from zip code XX. I want to make it clear to the Senato/Rep that I am against the wall and am glad the shutdown is over. I need him/her to do more to stop racism in this country:
- Passing funding bills with NO money for the wall
- Ending and investigating family separation at the border
- Passing HR 1 because expanding voting access is the civil rights issue of our times
